About Conner

Conner Simmons is a double bassist, improviser, and composer from Denton, Texas, living in NYC. Described by composer and vocalist Annika Socolofsky as “the perfect blend of soup and stew,” their music sifts through quiet sounds and fragile textures to conjure compositions and improvisational propositions for sparse, atmospheric chamber music that is frank and DIY in nature. Performances as a double bassist include several seasons with the South Arkansas and Shreveport Symphonies, concerts at Alice Tully Hall, and a run of shows as principal bassist for the Martha Graham Dance Company production of Rite of Spring. They have shared bills with several of their own musical heroes, among them F.K.A. Twigs and Bill Orcutt, and recordings of their playing can be heard on Texas-based cult experimental music labels Sawyer Editions and Full Spectrum, as well as on the world premiere recording of Julius Eastman’s Symphony No. 2. Their own music has existed on the fringes, finding homes in basements, living rooms, planetariums, and embedded in the sides of towering snow banks. They graduated from The University of North Texas with degrees in classical performance and composition and are currently pursuing a Master of Music in the Performer-Composer degree at The New School, where their teachers and mentors include Levy Lorenzo, Nathan Wooley, Ross Wightman, Brandon Lopez, and Lizzie Burns.
